Christian Vorobev, M. Sc., is an engineer for control methods in the traction domain and a research assistant at the Chair of Energy Systems Technology and Power Mechatronics at Ruhr University Bochum (Prof. Dr. Volker Staudt). His focus lies on electric machines, power electronics, pulse patterns, and model-based control.
From 2015 to 2024, he worked as an embedded systems developer at PHYSEC GmbH in Bochum, focusing on FreeRTOS- and mbedOS-based firmware, circuit and PCB design for RF systems, and technical documentation.
He studied electrical engineering at Ruhr University Bochum and completed his Bachelor of Science in 2022; in 2025, he completed his Master of Science with a specialisation in energy systems technology with distinction. His bachelor’s thesis dealt with state changes in power-electronic systems, while his master’s thesis focused on control methods for railway drives, including test-bench measurements. An exchange semester at INSA Lyon and a traineeship at KEOLIS Lyon involving reverse engineering of an auxiliary converter complemented his studies.
Alongside his studies, he gained research experience as a tutor and assistant, including work on SiC modules, synchronous pulse patterns, fault detection in modular multilevel converters, and sensorless control.
His industry experience spans the development of control and modulation methods for drives in transport refrigeration and railway traction applications.
The technical profile includes PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, KiCAD, FreeCAD, EAGLE PCB, and Ghidra. Programming experience focuses on C/C++, Verilog, Python, and Bash. German and Russian are native languages; English and French at C1 level.
In his free time, he plays Bach fugues on the organ and harpsichord and enjoys skiing in winter.
